- Steam Will Rise...Paint will drip!
Decided to explore some wilderness and found this old industrial beast sleeping in the middle of the woods and returned the next morning to paint something on it. When I got there the sun was just coming up and this was what it looked like... I then painted something but not without some of the white paint dripping from the frozen sheet of metal.

This is my own take on fatherhood, yes I will soon be the father of a baby boy and that has been quite a bit on my mind lately and this image really kept coming back to me so I decided to put ink to paper and create this drawing. Hope you enjoy.Drawing2012 -
The portrait of a character who's habit of lying made him lose all grip of reality, to the point of blinding himself. I played with the cliché that your nose grows with each lie to the point that it penatrated his eyes.... in a nutshell that sums it up... Hope you enjoy.Drawing2012 -
With the weather finally warming up, I spent the perfect morning painting on the shore of a small mountain lake that has this piece of industrial residue laying around.
Jurassic 5 playing on the headphones, some silence after "quality control"; the swans fighting in the background, they really are mean to each other; a bunch of people walking their dogs and black and white paint...
Hope you enjoy...Painting, Street Art, Drawing2012 -

An experiment in typography with collage...
I think i've said this before but these urban textures are really common in my hometown of Lisbon and when I moved away I really missed these Compositions and "patterns" so I decided to create them myself...
Enjoy.Fine Arts, Street Art, Typography2013 -

This came to mind as a reaction to the fact that in recent times allot of people have been really dissing my home country but no one is doing anything to make it better, even if by doing something would be to shut up instead of criticizing it in ridiculous forms, so I decided to use some traditional tile work that can be found in plentyful fashion in Lisbon and the phrase Kick Him When He's Down in a reference to that...Fine Arts, Typography2012 -

Sureshot, another collage that I have recently completed. This came, yet again, from music lyrics, this time from the Beastie Boys and their classic song from the album Ill Communication. I really enjoy the rough/dirty aspect of these works hope you feel the same.

While walking the streets of Lisbon, I was always fascinated by the amalgam of posters put up on walls, and how they deteriorated and the natural decay of the paper created these amazing textures- the paper, the typo, the faded colors, the intercation between graphic design and arquitecture, ..., ...
Moving away from Lisbon one of the things that I gradually started to miss was this juxtaposition of urban textures so I decided to explore this theme myself on my own art and here is one of the first results.
Old newspapers, old photographs pasted together to build up a textured background of type, colors, decay and even a few comic strips. These works reflect me in an almost perfect way, having all the elements that have influenced me and drove me for the last two decades so it is only fitting that explore these elements.Hope you enjoy as much as I do.Art Direction, Fine Arts2012 -

Growing up in the US in the 80’s/90’s, it was almost impossible not to listen to the classic hip-hop that was made in that era and DJ Kool’s Let Me Clear My Throat was without a doubt a standout track, this is a humble homage to that tune…Illustration, Typography2013 -
I can’t explain it but I just love this phrase/quote. I’m not sure if it’s the phrase itself or if its the song I took from, or probably both but it has served as inspiration for two different works. Here is the second installment. Hand drawn typography and vector color.

One of my obsessions is "contrast", Contrast between new and old, contrast between elegant typography and hand drawn letterforms and contrast between organic and geometric, besides repetition and patterns so this exercice was something that I really enjoyed doing and something that I am really proud of. Hope you enjoy these organic/geometric patterns designed to be used as wallpaper.Pattern Design2012 -
A typeface project that I have been working on, The intention was to create a font that would be cool to use as a header and not for text, what I like the most about it is the contrast straight lines/curves and the fact that it is not a perfect typeface in terms of character length, these differences create an interesting dynamism in the balance of the words it composes. Hope you enjoy...Typography2012 -

This originated in a photo of the Portuguese post office mailboxes. The traditional Red and the Express mail, Blue. I really like the look of these old symbols of Portuguese culture so I decided to play around with this image to see what it could result in. Hope you enjoy.Digital Art2012 -

The typography poster for a solo show held in Montana Shop & Gallery in Lisbon. I drew inspiration from the "Mudanças" posters that can be found by the hundreds on the streets of Lisbon.

Some time ago I worked on a project that was abondoned for various reasons and basically I worked the lettering all in thread.
I really enjoyed that result and since then I have been wanting to rework that technique and Voilà. Here it is.
Rotten Leftovers.
Hope you enjoy.Typography2012 -
This was a graphic design job I worked on awhile ago. It consisted of creating the Identity for an agency that focused on non-conventional approaches to communication. I was the Art Director for BC for a few months before the person responsable decided to shut it down to concentrate on other projects. It was too bad. But at least I kept some cool graphic projects like this one.
Since we worked mainly in urban environments I decided to go with some textures that could be found on the streets so after some experiments I ended up using some old posters that I tore down myself. I then proceeded to choose the right texture and scan it in. After it was the "typical" Copy/Paste shit. I had a version of the poster with some type over it that would be printed in varnish, maintaining the initial graphic intact but with the message "camouflaged" in the poster... like a nice little chameleon.
I really like this work due to its "manual" approach.Graphic Design2012 -

I am quite sure this won't be a "crowd pleaser" but the magic of art, music and photography is to most people it can be irrelevant and to others it can be bliss.
I take way too many photos and every once in a while I stumble upon images that really inspire me, images that really mean something to me.
It's hard to explain, don't know if its the geometric lines and typography or the nostalgic feeling of standing alone on a train station in the middle of a snow storm but there is something about this image that I really dig. Hope you enjoy as well.
Take care and see you around.Photography2013
